China’s top player Lin Dan was lucky enough to avoid a biggest upset as he narrowly defeated Korea’s Young Woong Ha with a narrow margin at the SCG Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Thailand, on Wednesday, June 6.
The World Number Two Lin, who is top seed in Men’s Singles draw of Thailand Open, had to dig into his arsenal to overpower his spirited opponent Young Woong in a hard-fought contest that took three games of 55 minutes.
On the other hand, Young Woong put up staggering show when he played aggressive badminton and remained successful in snatching the first game from his higher ranked Chinese opponent.
However, the young Korean could not live up to expectations in the following sets and lost the match to Lin in rubber games with a decent margin.
In the first game, Lin played relaxed badminton as he was getting familiar with the court conditions but his Korean opponent was in different mood as he played impressive badminton and remained close to the Chinese until the one-minute break.
After the one-minute interval, Lin controlled the pace and remained slightly ahead of his Korean rival on the board.
The top seeded Chinese reached at 19-17 when he lost his focus and eventually lost the game to Young Woong with a 19-21 score on the board.
Angry with the loss of opening set, Lin fought back in the second game by playing to his maximum speed and easily wrapped up the set with a one-sided score of 21-8.
In the deciding game, Lin did not let his Korean challenger to level the score at any stage and took a striking lead of 11-4 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Chinese remained focused in the game and he did not spare any chance for Young Woong to catch up the difference on the score board.

The top seeded Chinese ended this interesting opening round fight in 55 minutes with a margin of 19-21, 21-8 and 21-15.
