Lin Dan ousts Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the Singapore Open Super Series
China’s top shuttler, Lin Dan, tamed Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, in the Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, in a match held in Singapore, on Thursday, June 16, 2011.
The ruling Olympic Champion, Lin, who is also the World Number Two and second seed of the championship, took only two sets of 37 minutes to crush the Danish shuttler, who defeated Kenichi Tago of Japan in the first round of the event.
The opening game progressed with the superb display of quality badminton from both players. Jorgensen, who is at the Number 13 spot in the world rankings, matched the speed of the mighty Chinese, who is known for his sharp reflexes and attacking style in
the game. The score in the opening half of the match was quite close.
However, after the interval, the 27-year-old Chinese accelerated his pace and started to dominate the rallies by picking the bird early from the net. The powerful smashes followed by straight and cross court net strokes pushed the Danish shuttler on the
back foot. Lin grabbed the game in 21 minutes with a score of 21-17.
In the second set, Lin put up an impressive show by playing attacking badminton. He was miles ahead of Jorgensen in this game, which proved that the Chinese is eyeing to capture the Men’s Singles title in Singapore. At the interval, Lin established a dramatic
lead of 11-3.
After getting back from the break, Lin continued his impressive run in the match by playing his usual aggressive game. He entertained the packed indoor arena by playing powerful jump smashes and left the Danish far behind in every aspect of the game.
Lin took only 16 minutes to tame Jorgensen in scintillating fashion with a 21-11 score on the board. The two-set match ended with Lin’s victory by a margin of 21-17 and 21-11.
In the quarter-final stage, the Chinese will take on the winner of the other pre-quarter-final match between Simon Santoso of Indonesia and Sho Sasaki of Japan.
