Lin Dan ousts Nguyen Tien Minh in the quarterfinal battle of the All England Open Badminton Championship
The most celebrated Chinese athlete, Lin Dan, ousted Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam, in the men’s singles quarterfinal battle of the All England Open Badminton Championship 2011, at Birmingham on Friday, March 11, 2011.
The number three seed shuttler of China took only two sets of 38 minutes to thrash Nguyen, who defeated Dicky Palyama of Netherlands in the first round and Du Pengyu of China in the second round of the tournament. In the semi-final, Lin will be meeting the
impressive Marc Zwiebler of Germany, who got rid of Kazushi Yamada of Japan in the quarterfinal.
The former World Champion and ruling Olympic gold medalist, Lin, started the opening set of the quarterfinal in his usual quick style. The Chinese is the major contender for the title in the event. He has won this title four times already. The former Champion
proved his worth by taking a good lead against the seventh seed, Nguyen, who tried his best to match the speed of the Chinese.
Till the break of the opening set, Lin was ahead of Nguyen with a four-point-lead of 11-7. The Chinese is known for his attacking game and is also regarded as one of the most powerful smashers in the world of badminton. The player of Vietnam could not stop
the winning run of the opponent even after the interval and lost the first game with a decent margin of 17-21, in 22 minutes.
The second set was also the same as the previous one as Lin remained far ahead of Nguyen, who struggled hard to make a come-back in the game. Till the interval of the second game, the Chinese was leading the set with a clear lead of 11-5. After the break,
the left-hander remained on track by winning one point after the other.
The down the line smashes and cross-net shots of Lin made it quite hard for the opponent to respond properly. The top shuttler of China did not spend much time in the court and finished the second game in just 16 minutes with a 21-11 score on the board.
The concluding score of this quarterfinal fight was, 21-17 and 21-11.
