Lin Dan out while Lee Chong Wei sails in the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
China’s Lin Dan crashed out in the Men’s Singles second round, while Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei proceeded to the next phase of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, held in Indonesia, on June 23, 2011.
Three-time World Champion and reigning Olympic Gold medallist, Lin, who is also World Number Two, suffered a stunning loss from the hands of Sho Sasaki of Japan, who finished the match with a 21-12 and 21-18 score, in just 39 minutes.
In this major upset of the day, Lin was lacking the speed, power and his movement was also slow. He was not playing at his best as he allowed Sasaki to dominate the game in the entire match. Lin never lost to Sasaki before this match in their four previous
head-to-head encounters.
While talking about the performance of the Chinese, national coach of Malaysian squad, Teh Seu Bock said, “Lin Dan, however, was not playing at full force (against Sasaki) today. There was no fire in him. Maybe he is saving his energy for the World Championships
(in London from Aug 8-14).”
On the other hand, World Number One and top seed of the event, Chong Wei, found no difficulty in beating Hong Kong’s Wing Ki Wong, in a straight-set match with a 21-17 and 21-19 margin, by taking just 29 minutes of court time.
Teh Seu said, “Chong Wei is relaxed and carried out his task well. It was quite windy in the stadium but he adapted to it quickly.”
In both games, Chong Wei played top-quality badminton with considerable ease, as he found no trouble in crushing Wing Ki. The Malaysian was quite relaxed in his movement and his play was just perfect against his opponent, who failed to match the class of
Chong Wei.
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, the top seed Chong Wei will fight against World Number Seven, Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam, who defeated China’s Wang Zhengming in a thrilling rubber set-fight, in the round-of-16 of the Indonesia Open.
