Lin Dan overpowers Daren Liew in quarter-final showdown at Thomas Cup Finals 2012
Chinese ace Lin Dan showed his remarkable craft when he overpowered Malaysia’s Daren Liew but not before losing a game to him at the quarter-final of Thomas Cup Finals on Wednesday, May 23, at Wuhan, China.
The World Number 2 Lin, who is reigning World Champion and Olympic gold medallist, had to work hard while playing against his lower ranked Malaysian rival Daren and managed to win the battle in rubber games.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Malaysian played to his maximum potential and surprised everyone by winning the opening set against the home favourite.
However, he failed to cope up with the incredible speed of Lin in the following sets and lost to him with a one-sided margin.
In the first set, Lin played in his usual composed and quick style by taking the bird early from all areas of the court. He was in complete control of rallies and pushed his rival in all areas without facing any trouble.
Until the interval, the Chinese was ahead on the score board by reaching at 11-7.
After the break, Daren also changed his strategy and started to work well at net coupled with powerful smashes. He managed to level the score against Lin by reaching at 13-13.
Lin tried to play aggressive badminton but failed to overpower his challenger and lost the game with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the second game, Lin took over the control and played to his maximum speed from the starting points and took a sensational lead of 11-4 until the mid-game break.
After the break, he continued punishing his Malaysian rival without dropping the pace of rallies and bagged the game with a tremendous margin of 21-9.
In the deciding game, Lin remained on track as he did not let Daren to get his rhythm and remained ahead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the local shuttler continued entertaining his home fans by remained focused in the court and he took the second game with a stunning 21-5 score on the board.
Lin emerged as the winner in this interesting Men’s Singles fight with a surprising margin of 17-21, 21-9 and 21-5.
