Lin Dan overpowers Lee Hyun Il in Men’s singles first round of the Japan Open Super Series
China’s Lin Dan dug deep into his reserves to beat Korean veteran, Lee Hyun Il in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, Japan, on September 21.
The current World Champion, Lin, who is currently World Number Two and second seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event, had to work extra hard to get rid of Lee Hyun in a three-set fight which took 43 minutes.
In the opening set of the match, the Chinese played to his full potential and remained successful in establishing a wonderful lead of 11-6 in a flash. He played an attacking game by targeting the side lines of his opponent’s court and gained a strong position
in the match.
However, in the second-half of the game, the Korean lifted his game and bridged the gap by reaching at 16-17 as his positive play forced Lin to make unforced errors. The Chinese found momentum in the concluding phase and scored four points in a row to win
the set by a 21-16 margin in 14 minutes.
It was a completely different story in the second game, as the Korean occupied the driving seat. Lee Hyun moved his rival in all areas of the court. Lin was trailing far behind in the second game as he lost his focus and missed many opportunities to win
points. He lost the second set with a surprising margin of 11-21 in 14 minutes.
The third and final game of this wonderful clash between the two elite shuttlers was amazing, as Lin played aggressive badminton after losing the second set. The Chinese spared no chance to hit powerful jumping smashes he is famous for. He remained far ahead
of his Korean opponent in the whole set by playing with incredible speed.
Lin’s attacking game helped him to clinch the third set by a margin of 21-12 in 15 minutes. This entertaining fight ended in 43 minutes with the result of 21-16, 11-21 and 21-12.
