Lin Dan shows no mercy to Chen Jin in the final showdown of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
The top Chinese shuttler, Lin Dan, showed no mercy to the ruling World Champion and compatriot Chen Jin, in the final showdown of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, at Mulheim, Germany on Sunday. Lin proved that he is the best in the world of badminton,
as he crushed his younger team-mate in straight games in a 48-minute long battle and won the men’s singles title.
The world and Olympic champion, Lin, was the top seed in this tournament. He remained unbeatable throughout the event, as he did not lose a single game to any opponent in his previous matches. This incredible Chinese player is regarded as the most celebrated
shuttler of the decade, as he has won every major tournament in the world of Badminton.
In the first set of the final match, both players put a great show of quality badminton in front of the packed indoor arena in Mulheim. The top seed was facing the number two seed of the event, Chen Jin, who is reigning world champion and world number six
in the rankings of the Badminton World Federation. In the opening set of the first game, Lin established a good lead of 8-4 points. Till the one-minute interval, Chen was trailing behind with a 9-11 score on the board.
After getting back in the court, both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe till the score reached 17-17. At this crucial stage, the number one seed utilized his extensive experience by increasing the pace of the game to an incredible level. Chen could not handle
the powerful smashes on his back-hand side at key moments and lost the opening set by a narrow margin of 21-19 in 25 minutes.
In the second game, Lin remained aggressive and continued his power-play in the entire game by employing fast pushes, spinning net shots and his trademark powerful smashes. The top seed of the event was leading with a big difference of 11-5 when the one-minute
break was announced. The crowd was getting crazy with the incredible performance of the best player in the world. After the break, Lin showed no tolerance and continued his sprint towards the finish, as Chen tried to reduce the gap, but his opponent was faster
and more accurate in his execution of strokes. The top seed finished the second game by a huge margin of 21-11 in just 23 minutes. This final battle took 48 minutes with a 21-19 and 21-11 score on the board.
