Lin Dan slays Nan Wei to ease into Men’s Singles quarter-final at Badminton Asia Championships
China’s elite shuttler Lin Dan eased into Men’s Singles quarter-final after crushing Hong Kong’s Nan Wei in the round-of-16 encounter at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Thursday, April 19, in China.
The current World and Olympic Champion Lin, who is World Number 2 and top seed in Men’s Singles seeding in Asia Championships, showed superb skills in the court and easily bagged the battle against the lower ranked Hong Kong shuttler.
Lin was in full control of rallies as he dictated his opponent in all areas of court with his amazing craft and wrapped up the fight in straight sets by consuming just 34 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Nan was quite helpless against the impressive play of his higher ranked challenger and failed to put up strong resistance.
He had no answer to the powerful strokes of his rival and lost the contest without impressing the local crowd.
In the opening set, Lin played in a relaxed mood but he was quicker in taking the bird early from all areas of the court and put up a remarkable lead on the board until the mid-game interval.
In the meanwhile, Nan could not play positive badminton and remained struggling in the whole contest. He was trailing far behind Lin in the opening half of first game.
After the break, Lin continued his flawless performance and did not wasted much time in grabbing the first set with a tremendous 21-8 score on the board.
In the second set, Nan played better game as he started to take shots of early and managed to match the speed of his Chinese rival. Until the break, the score remained close from both sides.
After the break, the score remained tight but Lin managed to take over the control of rallies and started to create trouble for his lower ranked opponent.
The Chinese played attacking badminton in the ending points and won the contest with a 21-18 margin on the board.
The top seeded Lin bagged this pre-quarter-final straight-set fight in 34 minutes with a comprehensive margin of 21-8 and 21-18.
