At the round-of-16 stage, the World Number Two Lin showed his elevated play and thrashed Pablo Abian of Spain in straight sets on Thursday, March 1, in Germany.
Lin, who has been positioned at the top in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, cheered the local crowd with his wonderful craft and tamed his lower ranked rival in straight games by taking just 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Abian could not challenge the speed of his higher ranked Chinese challenger in the whole match and lost it without taking any game.
In the opening rallies, Abian played to his maximum speed and remained equal against Lin, who was quite relaxed and comfortable in the court.
The score was 7-7 when Lin started to play fast badminton and remained successful in taking over the control of the game.
The top seed played with precision and pushed Abian in all areas of the court. Until the interval, he was in good position in the game as he reached at 11-8.
After the break, Lin continued playing positive badminton without facing any considerable resistance from his Spanish challenger.
He remained on course and easily bagged the opening set with a comfortable difference of 21-15.
In the second game, Lin continued his positive run and remained in control of rallies. He was quicker in taking the bird from all areas and also placed his strokes accurately in gaps of his rival’s court.
The lower ranked Spanish could not put up good show as he was lacking the aggression in his strokes. He also failed to break the flow of his Chinese opponent and remained struggling.
On the other hand, Lin was focused in the game and faced no problem in taking the second set with a 21-13 score on the board.
The end result of this straight set contest was 21-15 and 21-13.
