Lin Dan tames Chen Long in the title match of Super Series Finals to end the year in style
China’s Men’s Singles impressive shuttler, Lin Dan, who is widely regarded as the best player in the history of badminton, has stamped his superiority over his team-mate Chen Long in the final of the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals. With this win, Lin has proved that he is miles ahead of the rest of Chinese players in singles category.
The four-time World Champion and ruling Olympic gold Medallist, Lin, ended the final of the Super Series Finals in style, as he thrashed Long in straight games in front of local fans at the indoor arena in Liu Zhou, China, on Sunday, December 18. It is his second consecutive victory over Chen Long in the last one month.
The 28-year-old Lin, who is World Number Two in the Men’s Singles world rankings, stamped his supremacy in the game by beating his opponent without facing any problem. By winning this fight, he also indicated that he has no parallel throughout the world in the category of Men’s Singles.
In the title match against Long, who defeated Malaysia’s top seed Lee Chong Wei in the semi-final of the tournament, Lin played his normal game and registered victory over his team-mate with a wonderful ease. He entertained the crowd for 45 minutes and finished the match in two games with a striking margin.
Long, who has been impressive throughout the year, failed to impress the home crowd by playing against his senior country-mate, Lin, who always remains ahead when it comes to win the crown in a major event.
Lin is the most confident shuttler in the world who always elevates his level of play on the most crucial moments when rest of the shuttlers take pressure. This characteristic put him ahead of other players not only from China but also from the whole world.
It was a thrilling start from both sides as they put up stunning show by playing fast and positive game. Long was aggressive in his approach in the opening points while Lin was quite focused in his defensive strokes and powerful drives.
The score remained close from both sides and created thrill for the huge home crowd that turned around to watch the giants fighting for the title. Both shuttlers played positive and fast game until 6-6 when Long accelerated his speed and reached at 9-6. Lin levelled the score by playing fast badminton at the net and reached at 11-10 until the break.
In the following half, Lin continued his roller-coaster performance by reaching at 15-9. Long injected more power into his strokes but failed to destroy the defence of his challenger. Lin remained on track and finished the first set in a fabulous way with a margin of 21-12.
In the second game, both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe by playing parallel game. Long was trying to execute net shots to take high lifts in the air but Lin was quicker in taking the bird from the tape of the net and pushed his opponent in both corners of rear court.
The impressive performance of Lin helped him to tame the younger team-mate in the second game with a margin of 21-16. Long failed to overpower his elder compatriot as he had no answer to the perfect play of Lin. The overall score of this straight-set Men’s Singles final contest was 21-12 and 21-16.
With this victory, Lin has finished the last major event of current year in magnificent fashion. He seems to be in great position to defend his title at the 2012 London Olympics.
