Lin Dan tames Lee Hyun Il in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at the 2011 World Championships
China’s Lin Dan, who is the most celebrated shuttler in the arena of badminton throughout the world, reserved his berth in the Men’s Singles quarter-final as he tamed Korea’s Lee Hyun Il in the round-of-16 phase of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley
Arena in London, on Thursday, August 11.
World Number Two, Lin, who is the top shuttler in China in the category of Men’s Singles, proved his superiority in the game by playing his usual badminton. He worked hard in the opening set but found an easy ride in the second game of the match, which ended
in straight sets.
The ruling Olympic champion, Lin, opened the game against the Korean in his fast style but Lee Hyun was also playing at the same speed and the score moved equally from both sides. Lin accelerated his pace when the score was at 14-14 and remained successful
in scoring many points in a row to finish the opening game with the margin of 21-16.
However, the three-time World Champion Chinese shuttler remained in great control in the second game, as he showed no mercy to his challenger and reached at 11-5 in a flash. He was playing on a completely different level and the Korean had no answer to the
power and speed of the Chinese.
Lin finished-off the round-of-16 battle by winning the second game with a margin of 21-13. The Men’s Singles battle ended with the result of 21-16 and 21-13.
After the match, Lin said, “These are my seventh world championships and every time there are many more players from different countries who are difficult to beat. Today I tried my best. He was mentally very well prepared and I am glad to have won.”
Lin is playing his normal badminton and is in good shape as he is yet to lose even a single set to any of his rivals in the mega event. In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Lin will face Japan’s Sho Sasaki who defeated China’s Du Pengyu in the Men’s Singles
round-of-16.
