Lin Dan tames Mathias Borg in Men’s Singles first round at German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
China’s ace shuttler Lin Dan displayed his wonderful craft as he tamed Sweden’s Mathias Borg in Men’s Singles first round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Tuesday, February 28, at Mulheim, Germany.
The current Olympic and World Champion Dan, who is World Number Two and top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, showed his supremacy in the arena and won the fight in straight games without facing any problem.
The top seed played his normal game and outplayed his Swedish opponent in just 36 minutes without losing any set.
Dan, who is the favourite to win the title in this event, started his campaign in a perfect fashion as he took no time in making adjustment with the court conditions and played quite comfortably.
The Chinese was relaxed in the opening half of first game but remained quicker in taking the bird and did not let his rival to dictate the pace at any stage.
After a few rallies in the opening points, he controlled the pace and started to drive his opponent in all corners of the court.
On the other hand, Borg also played competitive badminton in the first few rallies and remained close but he could not match the speed of his higher ranked Chinese challenger. He was behind his rival on the score board until the break.
After the interval, Dan continued entertaining the crowd with his perfect play and stretched his lead without facing any trouble from his lower ranked opponent. He took the opening game easily with a margin of 21-15.
In the following set, Borg could not put up strong play as his opponent was playing on the highest level of the game.
The top seed remained in superb control and took an impressive lead until the one-minute break in the second set.
After the break, Dan continued his killing run against the Swedish player and dictated the pace of rallies with a wonderful ease.
The perfect drives and powerful smashes of the top seed helped him to take the second set with a striking margin of 21-11.
Dan bagged this first-round straight-set contest in just 36 minutes with an impressive 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
