Lin Dan thrashes Stefen Wojcikiewicz to cruise into the second round of the German Open GP Gold 2011
The World and Olympic Champion, Lin Dan of China, sailed smoothly in the opening round match of the German Open GP Gold 2011, against Stefen Wojcikiewicz of Canada, today in Mulheim, Germany. The world number three Chinese shuttler, took only 31 minutes
on the court to thrash the Canadian player in a straight set match. In the second round, he will meet Scott Evans of Ireland, who defeated Kristian Midtgaard of Denmark in straight sets.
In the opening points of the first game, Wojcikiewicz took a quick lead by 4-1 against Dan. The Canadian played wonderful game and remained ahead of the opponent till 8-7, where Lin started to control things in his own way, as he was leading the game by
11-8 till the one minute break of the opening set.
After the break, the Canadian scored three points in a row and narrowed the gap by 12-13. At this stage, Dan started to play more aggressively and took a good lead of 17-13. Wojcikiewicz worked hard to accommodate the speed of Dan and again scored two more
points in a row. The world number three was just superb, as he scored the remaining points in a row and won the first game by a 21-17 score in 15 minutes.
Dan played his usual aggressive game in the second set and took a 5-1 lead in the start. He put more speed and power in his strokes that left no opportunity for the opponent to remain on track. The Chinese player was leading by a margin of 11-5 till the
interval of the second game. Getting onto the court after the interval, Lin remained on track and got a comfortable lead of 7-15.
The Canadian was quite helpless against the powerful drives of Dan, who is famous for his hard hitting smashes. The world number three maintained the lead till 19-13, where the shuttler of Canada matched the speed of his opponent and reduced the difference
by scoring four points in a row to make it 17-19. The experienced Dan again controlled the rallies and earned the remaining two points in a row to finish it up by a 21-17 margin in 16 minutes.
