Lin Dan topples Chen Jin to grab Men’s Singles title in the 2011 Hong Kong Open super Series
China’s ruling Olympic and World Champion, Lin Dan continues his peerless winning run at the international stage as he has grabbed Men’s Singles title after beating his team-mate and former World Champion, Chen Jin in the final of the Hong Kong Open Super Series, in Hong Kong, on Sunday, November 20.
It was a clash of the titans as two experienced players fought for glory. However, the third seed Lin remained successful in beating Jin in straight games by playing to his maximum speed. He consumed just 32 minutes to stamp his supremacy over the younger compatriot by putting up fabulous show of fast and attacking badminton.
Both Chinese shuttlers have met on 20 occasions and Lin is leading these head-to-head meetings with 14 victories over Jin, who emerged as the winner on six occasions. This time Lin showed no mercy to his compatriot and finished up the match in two games without taking much pain in both games.
The opening set started with aggressive strokes from both sides as they played with precision and also employed powerful smashes to earn points. Lin, who is known for his speed and power made his opponent work hard in taking points. The score remained close until 8-8 when the ruling World Champion accelerated his speed and reached at 11-9 until the break.
After the break, Lin came in the court with an attacking approach as he inject power in his strokes and also geared up his speed at the net. His impressive speed and fast strokes pushed Jin on the back foot. The former World Champion failed to put up strong resistance against the higher ranked opponent. The World Number Three Lin ended up the first game with a superb margin of 21-12.
In the second set of this title match, both shuttlers remained equal until 7-7 when Lin score four consecutive points and reached at 11-7 until the interval. After the break, Jin played positive badminton and levelled the score by reaching at 12-12.
At this stage, Lin changed his tactics and started to execute smashes, which helped him to take a wonderful lead and maintain it to take the set with a 21-19 score on the board. The final score of this straight-set title match was 21-12 and 21-19.
