Lin Dan will be only stumbling block in Olympic Games, says World Number One Lee Chong Wei
Malaysia’s best ever player and ruling World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, considers China’s Lin Dan as the only stumbling block in his way to win glory at the 2012 Olympic Games, which will take place in London, from July 28 to August 5.
The 29-year-old Malaysian has been playing quivering badminton in the last three months and lost to China’s second seed and World Number Three, Chen Long, in three tournaments including Japan Open Super Series 2011, Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2011
and BWF Super Series Finals 2011.
However, despite his bad performance against the young Chinese, Chong Wei is confident to tame him in the Olympic Games. He considers that the ruling Olympic Champion, Lin, will be the only shuttler who can stop him from winning the Men’s Singles title in
the mega event.
Chong Wei said, "I feel I have the confidence to overcome Chen Long while Lin Dan will be the man to beat in London."
The Malaysian has been facing problems while playing against Lin in important matches of major international events for the last five years. The shuttler knows that he needs to change his playing style in order to end the jinx he has been suffering with,
while playing against the Chinese mega star.
He said, "There has been some worry after my defeats to Lin Dan and Chen Long. I need to have new strategies in my preparations until the London Olympics. I have been training under Seu Bock while Rashid and Hendrawan also helped. I don't mind if I get help
from Misbun."
Chong Wei remains in touch with his former coach, Misbun Sidek, for seeking advice. Now many rumours are around there that the shuttler wants the former mentor to help him in the elevation of his game again for achieving good results at the London Olympics.
He also said, "The question of whether there will be a change in my coaching is with BAM. I am under BAM and I will follow its rules. I have spoken to Misbun recently and got some tips.”
The shuttler is working hard on the mental aspects of his game as he needs confidence and a firm belief in his abilities to win the coveted title at the Olympic Games.
