Lin Dan will play while Peter Hoeg Gade and Taufik Hidayat will quit after London Olympics
China’s mega star Lin Dan has not yet decided to take retirement from international badminton while his old rivals Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark and Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia will quit after the London Olympics 2012, which are set to take place in July-August
in England.
The 28-year-old Lin, who is the four-time World Champion and winner of Beijing Olympics, wants to continue playing at international level as he wants to emulate Peter Gade who has become 35 years old and still occupies the fifth place in the world rankings.
Peter Gade and the former World and Olympic Champion Taufik will stop playing competitive badminton after Olympic Games.
However, the current World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia will stick around for another year as he is expected to quit after the World Championships 2013.
While talking about the Taufik and Peter Gade, the Chinese shuttler said that it last week’s Thomas Cup was the last team-even competition for both shuttlers.
He said, "It's the last Thomas Cup for my old friends Peter Gade and Taufik Hidayat. I can't help wondering about how many more Thomas Cups I will play."
In the title match of Thomas Cup Finals 2012, Lin was up against Lee Hyun Il of South Korea. The Chinese played to his maximum potential and overpowered his rival in straight sets.
Lee Hyun expressed his views about Lin by saying that the Chinese is a perfect shuttler from all aspects of the game.
He said, "I've been playing with Lin for almost a decade. He's always able to play sharp and quick kills."
While talking about the London Olympics, Lin said that he will not take any opponent lightly as all challengers will be well prepared and he will take everyone seriously.
He said, "The men's singles has become more competitive four years after the Beijing Olympics. I will keep fighting whoever stands across the net."
Taufik and Peter Gade are considered as the most stylish player in the arena of badminton and both have been playing remarkable badminton for a prolonged period of almost 15 years.
