Lin Dan’s eases past Wan Ho Shon in the quarterfinal of the German Open GP Gold
The ruling Olympic champion and top shuttler from China, Lin Dan, found no difficulty in beating the number seven seed, Wan Ho Shon of Korea, in the quarterfinal battle of the German Open GP Gold 2011, at Mulheim, Germany today. Lin won the match in two sets by spending 42 minutes on the court. Shon could not continue his impressive game that earned him victory in the previous match against Dicky Palyama of Netherlands and lost to the top seed from China.
In the opening set of the quarterfinal match, Lin proved that he belongs to a different class of the game by taking a decent lead of 11-6 in the first half of the set. After the break, Shon tried to match the speed of the opponent and reduced the difference to 10-13. Once again, the Chinese geared up the speed to execute his trade mark down the line smashes and incredible speed on the net. He won the opening game in 20 minutes by a big margin of 21-14.
The second set of the match was quite interesting for the viewers, who were present to watch the skills of the most celebrated shuttler in the world. Both players put a good show in the opening half of the second game and the Korean was quite close at 8-9, where the Chinese took two points in a row and established a good lead of 11-8. After the one-minute interval, Lin started to push the shuttle c**k in the corners and made his opponent work hard to return the bird back.
Lin Dan’s incredible stamina and speed always put him in strong position at the key moments of the match. Shon always remained trailing behind in the entire set and lost to the mighty Chinese by a considerable difference of 15-21 score. The final score of this 43-minute match was 21-14 and 21-15.
In the semi-final battle, the top seed will be fighting against the number three seed, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand, who crushed the Japanese player, Keigo Sonoda, in the quarterfinal match of the German Open GP Gold 2011.
