Lin Dan’s participation in Indonesia Open Premier Super Series depends on his physical condition
Chinese shuttler, Lin Dan’s participation in the upcoming Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011 is doubtful, as he suffered from a stomach pain and was not able to play in the final of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011, against his team-mate, Chen
Jin.
A stomach pain forced Lin to withdraw from the match, to the disappointment of badminton fans in Singapore, who came in the indoor stadium to watch two elite shuttlers of China fighting for glory, in the Men’s Singles title-match.
However, Lin, who is the ruling Olympic Champion, apologised to the huge crowd who turned out at the indoor arena in Singapore to watch the mega star playing in front of them.
Lin said, “I understand and could empathize with the reactions of the crowd because I know a lot of people came down to support me.”
While talking about his participation in the Indonesia Open, which will start from June 21, Lin added, “I already entered my name into the competition but whether I can play or not, I would need to see my condition on that day.”
In the Indonesia Open, the World Number Two, Lin, will be the second seed in the Men’s Singles draw. The Chinese will also be a major threat to the World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who will be the defending champion in the event.
The 27-year-old Lin has been placed in the bottom-half of the Men’s Singles draw. He will have a tough contest as Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade will also fight from the same half of the draw.
The top seed, Chong Wei, who skipped the Singapore Open Super Series 2011 to remain focused on his training for the World Championships 2011, will be eyeing to win the title in Jakarta, which will boost his confidence to perform well in the upcoming events.
Both, the World Number One and Two are expected to meet in the Men’s Singles title-match of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.
