Lin Jarvis: Yamaha Factory Racing to help Jorge Lorenzo if needed – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing boss Lin Jarvis has revealed that if needed they will help Jorge Lorenzo with team orders.
Lorenzo holds second position in the 2011 MotoGP championship, 44 points behind Casey Stoner.
Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis talked to Motorcyclenews.com and said, “There are still some races to go and it is not like we are six points adrift with only two races to go. We need to see how the season pans out and I would hope by the last two races of the year
we are still mathematically in the hunt to fight and then let’s see what we need to do in that moment.”
Earlier in the season, the team had denied of using any kind of team orders, especially at the Indianapolis GP where Ben Spies stood strong in 2010 and 2011. This was also proved when Spies took a podium ahead of Lorenzo.
Jarvis further added, “Ben and Jorge are both team players, so I think we have a very good relationship between these two riders this year, unlike perhaps in the past.”
In 2010, Spies was in a Yamaha Tech3 squad whereas now he is a teammate of defending world champion at the Yamaha factory team. The team boss expects that both team riders share a good understanding which will help in the final team decision.
Considering the points calculation, Lorenzo still has a chance to take the 2011 MotoGP title and on the other hand, Spies is far away.
On the situation, Jarvis added that if a rider has a close chance over his teammate, then he should be helped to take an advantage. The team aims to give each rider maximum exposure.
The Yamaha team boss also discussed the team orders implemented in Formula 1 racing. Jarvis said that legalising the team orders is a good thing they have done. It is important for the team to decide strategy for the team and riders rather than the fans.
On the other side of the Yamaha garage the Texan rider, Ben Spies is not happy with the decision. Earlier he denied accepting any kind of team orders. He also said that the team has not yet given him any hint about the change of strategy.
However, Spies aims to fight with full potential in any case to score wins in his debut MotoGP season with the factory team.
