Lin Wang continues her successful run in main draws - Australian Open update
The Women’s Singles shuttler from China, Lin Wang continued her successful run in Yonex Australian Open GP Gold and stamped Adrianti Firdasari in the first round match on April 4, 2012.
The spirited shuttler, who earlier cleared qualifying round to be in the main draws, outclassed her Indonesian rival with decisive figures of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-14.
The tussle was certainly a tough trial of mental and physical fitness as it prolonged to 61 minutes.
Lin Wang showed her intentions in very first set as she put a great resistance against her higher ranked opponent.
Both ladies could not establish unassailable lead as they kept chasing each other on the scoreboard till the game point position.
World Number 34 Adrianti Firdasari had to sweat hard throughout the first set and it yielded good results for her as she bagged the opening match point with a tight yet decisive score of 21-19.
This first set win gave a boost to Adrianti and she almost converted her 1-0 lead into straight-set victory but Lin Wang turned her plans into dust.
The talented Lin matched her rival’s skills and displayed premium court craft to level the lead. She scored 11 points with her deceiving net shots which ultimately played vital role in her 21-19 win in the second set.
This 1-1 match position brought life back to the match and the spectators were expecting a lot of fireworks in the decider but their thirst was not filled completely.
In the first half of the set, the Indonesian challenger Adrianti placed some quick points but the Chinese girl, Lin accelerated her speed in later part of the set and left her rival far behind in score position.
Adrianti never came back from seven-point deficit and Lin swept the board with a distinctive margin of 21-14.
This splendid 2-1 win took Lin Wang, who was underdog in this Championship, into the second round of the event where she will meet either Inthanon Ratchanok from Thailand or the Dutch shuttler Jie Yao.
If she wins, she will reserve her right to be in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2012.
