Lin Wen-Tang confident to retain his Asian Tour card for the 2013 golf season
Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-Tang finished tied for the 22nd position at the King’s Cup, to surge to the 60th place in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
With only two events left on the Asian Tour roster, Wen-Tang is confident to hold onto his position, in a bid to secure his card for the 2013 Asian Tour season.
According to the Asian Tour’s qualifying policy, the top-60 players, at the end of the Iskandar Johor Open, will be allowed to retain their cards for the upcoming year.
The five-time Asian Tour winner marked a strong start to his campaign at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club, by posting a 66 in the first round.
He then followed that by scoring 68 and 69 in the second and the third round, respectively, to share the eighth position, entering the final round.
However, the Chinese Taipei star failed to keep the momentum going into the final round and faltered for a one-over par 73.
Despite making a poor finish on day four, he was pleased with his overall performance in the tournament.
“I'm very pleased with how I've played this week. I enjoy the feeling of being back in contention and challenging for the title. Although I didn't win, it's okay as I gave my best and that is all I can really ask for,” he said.
He also stated that he never lost his Asian Tour card since 2003, and is confident to secure his full-time status this year too.
According to him, Thailand is one of his favourite golf destinations in the world. Therefore, he is likely to improve his position in the Order of Merit, with a strong finish this week at the Thailand Golf Championship.
“I always enjoy coming to Thailand as we have lots of friends here,” he said. “There’s a saying that goes when you are at home, you have your family but when you are away, you can always count on your friends. I guess that’s why I’m getting the results here
in Thailand as well”.
Thailand’s Boonchu Ruangkit was another player who broke it into the top-60, by finishing tied for the sixth place at the King’s Cup. He now holds the 54th place in the standings.
