Lin Wen-tang shares the first round lead at Transcend Open on Asian Development Tour
Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang grabbed an early lead in the Transcend Open in Taipei when he carded first round scores of four-under, 68 but had to share the lead with Chou Hung-nan. The day turned out to be one of the dazzling days of Lin’s career when apparently
everything went the right way. The 36-year-old pulled in a splendid Hole-in-One to walk away with the sponsor’s designated Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph watch.
Chiang Chen-chih of Chinese Taipei is further down the leaderboard with his first round score of 69 and settled for joint third alongside Lin Wen-hong, Kao Shang-hung and Lien Lu-sen. Four-time winner on the Asian Tour, Wang Ter-chang is in contention for
the seventh place alongside Yeh We-tze and Tsai Chi-huang, each having first round score of 70.
Miguel Tabuena, the young rising talent from Philippines finished 10th, tied with 10 players. Tabuena has under gone a swing change with his coach and believes that the strategy is quietly setting in and he believes he is doing better than his
lopsided performance in last week’s Philippines Open.
Lin started off from the back nine and was overwhelmed with the Hole-in-One at Par-three, 13th. He made the turn and went ahead to card birdies at the 17th and then again at seventh to close his round with a 68.
“A hole-in-one always brings about a special feeling and it was no different for me even though this is my 13th hole-in-one that I’ve recorded since turning professional,” said Lin.
Lin has won five times on the Asian Tour but feels there’s a lot of work to be done to summit this week’s ADT challenge.
“It’s a nice start and I couldn’t have asked for more on a windy day like today. There is a promising pool of talented players who are all eager to prove themselves and show that they can match up against season campaigners like me. As for myself, I’ll focus
on each round and not get too carried away as there’re still three more rounds to play,” said Lin.
46-year-old Chou also had a promising day as the prolific player carded no less than five birdies and stumbled with his lone bogey for the round at Par-five, eighth and could have gone to grab the lead had it not been for Lin’s glorious Ace.
Asian Development Tour swung back in action on Wednesday May 25, with US $130,000 Transcend Open at the scenic Tong Hwa Golf and Country Club, Taipei. The tour plays more of a qualifying leg for the mainstream Asian Tour and the event is the fourth one for
the recent season. All top Chinese Taipei players are part of the field, aspiring to grab a place for the upcoming Asian Tour events.
