Lin Yue overpowers Men’s 10m Platform heat: Day five – 18th FINA Diving World Cup
Olympic champion, Lin Yue overpowered his opponents in the Men’s 10m Platform preliminary round on fifth day of the 18th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) Visa Diving World Cup 2012 at the Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park in London on Friday, February 24.
The 20-year-old Yue remained dominant over his opponents throughout the event. With his epic performance, he outsmarted efforts of his challengers in every round and occupied finest qualification spot into the semi-final.
The Chinese diver faced strong battle from his teammate, Qiu Bo, who struggled hard to surpass him on the rankings list, but failed to achieve so.
Yue gathered a wonderful score of 519.80 points to earn first qualifying position. With his immaculate effort, he stayed 13.05 points ahead of his team-member, Bo, who ended second with an effort of 506.75 points.
Yue won gold medal of the Synchronised 10m Platform at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With his incredible efforts, he achieved the same at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Nevertheless, the third spot of the event was secured by Swedish diver, Christofer Eskilsson, who remained almost eight points behind Bo and entered the semi-final with a score of 498.95 points.
Eskilsson remained just 0.05 points lucky from his subsequent competitor, Matthew Mitcham of Australia, who qualified into the next round as fourth position holder with a score of 498.90 points.
Similarly, Mexico’s German Sanchez was 9.30 points away from his former finisher as he accomplished a total of 489.60 points for fifth position. He was trailed by Victor Minibaev of Russia, who remained considerably behind him and qualified as sixth position holder by achieving 472.80 points.
Sanchez’s teammate, Rommel Pacheco transpired on the overall points table for seventh position as he obtained 467.25 points. He was followed by Martin Wolfram of Germany, who earned eighth best position in the qualifying round by securing 466.40 points.
These competitors will compete with each other in the semi-final of the event, where they will try to prove their mettle for top qualification spots in the playoff. Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events.
