Ok!! We have a 2003 Lincoln Ls 3.9L. We have a new radiator, now thermostat, new water outlet. This d**n car still over heats!!! On the freeway and on sitting still. I am very stumped. I bled the cooling system after installing each part and still.... we have p1299 stored in the check engine light which is cyl. head overtemp. Any ideas? This car is a pile of junk...... why ford? why?

  1. Hi, i just had the same problem on 9-23-09
as i pulled into a parking space the car over heated.
when i got home i removed the thermostat, it was cracked in half but that wasn`t the problem.
the next thing i did was remove the belt and shake the pulley on the water pump but it wasn`t loose at all.
i also made sure that there wasn`t any air bubble in the radiator system, if there is, your car will over heat. the air bubble gets in there after installing a new thermostat.
to get out the air bubble you need to loosen the bleeder s***w, it is located near the brake booster on the driver side.
as soon as you start the car, turn on the heat, loosen or remove the plastic bleeder s***w until the air stops and antifreeze comes out for about five seconds.
if you are still over heating, it can only be one other part, the coolant reservoir, these are notorious for cracks and small pin
holes, you will not see any antifreeze leaking until the engine warms up, after the fluid leaks out of the holes your car will over heat.
if you want to see the leak, you need to remove the windshield wipers so you can remove the plastic part that is covering the reservoir, then you will see the leak spraying out from it.
i have a 200 Lincoln LS, i changed the reservoir and never had an overheating problem again.
hope i`m not to late answering your question.
    good luck.

P.S. it can also be the hydraulic fan motor but this is rare.
