Lincoln-Sudbury boys’ volleyball team wins against Westford Academy on Monday
Volleyball has become a sport that is taken seriously not only at the university level but also at the high school level. Both the girls and the boys volleyball team in schools have vigorous programs that train these young athletes to become one of the finest
players of the nation. The level of skill displayed by players at the university level has much to do with the sort o training they had in their school days.
One such team that has talented and competitive players is the Lincoln-Sudbury boys' volleyball team. The last match that they played on Monday stands witness to the fact that the Warriors perform at a high level of skill.
The Warriors were up against Westford Academy in their recent match and they were able to hand out a defeat to them by making a clean sweep. Not only were the Warriors able to defeat Westford in three back to back sets, they did so by leaving no doubt of
their superiority over their opponents.
As the Warriors were celebrating their well-earned win by jumping with joy and Westford was vacating the courts in disappointment, the scoreboard told the match summary by displaying the following final set scores: 25-13, 25-19, and 25-14.
As soon as the first set of the match commence, the Warriors took charge by taking the lead early on. They were able to pressurise the Grey Ghosts by scoring point after point. Once the Warriors had the lead, they did not find it difficult to stay at the
top of the game all through the match.
All the Grey Ghosts could do was to try and catch up. As a result, the Warriors bagged the first set of the game pretty easily at 25-13.
The start of the second set happened much the same way as that of the first. The Warriors again took the lead and kept extending it for most part of the game. The Grey Ghosts tried closing in the gap and brought the score board to show 23-19.
However, that was as far as the Ghosts would be able to get in the second set of the match as it was eventually claimed by the Warriors at 25-19.
The third set also saw the Warriors take the lead at 13-4. With the pressure at its peak, the Grey Ghosts were able to step up their game a notch and give the Warriors some competition. However, the effort came in too late and the Warriors took the final
set of the match at 25-14.
“They might have looked a little slow in the beginning, but they picked it up really quickly,” said Elizabeth McClung, the coach of the Warriors. “We had our jump serves going and defensively we were hustling well, especially in our last (set). We had to
play a tough aggressive game and we did.”
