Lincoln-Sudbury defeats Framingham by 3-2 in final of MIAA Division I – Volleyball news
The Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to Framingham by 3-2 in the final of the MIAA Division I State Tournament.
The match between the Warriors and Framingham was highly competitive and the Hudson High School gym filled with hoots and gasps at short intervals on Monday. The first set of the match went well for the Warriors but Framingham responded by making the match
a tie by bagging the second set of the game. Likewise, the third set went in favour of the Warriors but Framingham did not relent in the fourth and took the match to a fifth and final set. By the time the night was out, the Warriors had secured themselves
the title by winning the match with the final set scores of 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 25-27, and 17-15.
William Kaste, the head coach of Haverhill, commented on the performance of his team and said, “We started to get our serves in, our blocking was better, we dug the ball up, and we started swing with a little more of a relaxed swing. We really worked on
getting a good first touch. We knew they had a really good attack and when we did not serve or pass well we were in trouble.”
In the first two sets of the game, Haverhill was able to assert themselves and take the lead. In both the sets, the Warriors were able to overtake the Hillies in the middle of the game. The Hillies could not get the lead back in the first set and lost it
by 20-25 but they were able to outperform the Warriors in the second set and bag it at 25-18.
Having reached level ground again at the start of the third set of the game, both the Warriors and Hillies played strong volleyball. The score was tied at 11-11 but the Warriors were able to push past ahead and take the lead at 24-16. After this point, it
was only a matter of time before the Warriors sealed the deal on the third set of the game at 25-16.
The Hillies were able to neutralise the threat posed by the Warriors by winning the fourth set at 27-25 but the fifth and the final set of the match was bagged by the Warriors at 17-15.
L-S has been able to end the tournament on an impressive note by securing a total of 21 victories. They have gained these wins at the cost of incurring only one loss. On the other hand, the Hillies have earned themselves an equal number of wins as the Warriors
but they have had a total of two defeats.
