Lincoln-Sudbury defeats Natick 3-1 in MIAA Division 1 Central Tournament final -Volleyball
Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball team took a long time to end their celebrations on Tuesday night as they defeated Natick to put their hands on the Champion’s trophy of the MIAA Division 1 Central Tournament.
The final took four long and exciting sets to reach its conclusion with both teams playing to their fullest. Natick was able to win the first set of the match but the Warriors seized the next three for themselves. It was the third set that seeped all the
energy out of Natick as they were completely smothered by the Warriors. After that point, Natick only put in a half-hearted effort in what turned out to be the last set of the match, which the Warriors won by the following final set scores: 25-21, 25-23, 25-8,
and 25-20.
Despite the fact that the Warriors won the final in an impressive fashion, their play was not perfect as L-S were having trouble with their serving. In the entire match, 17 of the Warrior serves failed to cross the net. In contrast, Natick had this problem
with only three of their serves.
The coach of the Warriors, Elizabeth McClung, made the following comments about her team performance at the end of the match: “We were doing too much with the serves. Once we were able to put the ball over the net, we were able to block and defend against
their attack. We knew tonight was not going to be an easy win for us, but we had a lot of confidence along with a lot of talent.”
The beginning of the first set of the game was competitive. The Warriors as well as Natick played some good volleyball in an effort to keep the other side from taking control. The match was still tied at 16-16 when the Warriors started making service errors
that swung the match in favour of Natick. The Warriors were able to close in the gap at 23-21 after Natick had taken the lead but L-S were not able to stop their rivals from bagging the first set of the game at 25-21.
As Natick had their momentum going by winning the opening set, they were able to come out strong in the second set as well. However, the Warriors got into their stride as the set reached its middle stages and took a lead at 21-15. Natick was able to push
themselves and reach a tie at 22-22 but the Warriors managed to win the match at 25-23.
After winning the second set of the game, the third and the fourth ones came easily at 25-8 and 25-20.
The Warriors end the tournament on an impressive note after bagging 19 wins overall while suffering only one loss. On the other hand, Natick has recorded 17 victories at the cost of incurring three defeats.
