Lincoln-Way Central loses to Marist by 2-0: Marist Regional tournament – Volleyball news
The Marist boys volleyball team was able to do themselves proud on Wednesday by winning the final of the Marist Regional. They grabbed the champion’s title by beating Lincoln-Way Central, 2-0.
Despite the fact that they lost the match in a clean sweep, Lincoln-Way did not go down without putting up a fight. In both of the sets, Lincoln-Way was able to bring the score close at 25-21 and 26-24 in the first and second sets respectively.
With their recent win, Marist has been able to improve their overall season record to show a very solid number of wins. They have been able to emerge as victors with a total of 32 wins so far coupled with five defeats.
As opposed to the performance statistics of the Marist team, Central does not support a record that can be placed in the same category. The number of times that Central has tallied victories for themselves equals to be 22. However, they have not been able
to maintain a low number of defeats in comparison. The amount of losses that Central has incurred while coming this far in this season is 15.
The first set of the game did not see much of a challenge being put up by Central. Marist was able to take control of the match by taking the lead early on and building pressure on Central all through the opening set. It was only a matter of time before
Marist was able to secure themselves the first set of the game at 25-21.
Losing the first set of the game sent a wakeup call to Central in response of which they were able to rally together and step up their game. The rejuvenated Central team kept the second set of the match close all the way through. It got intense as the set
reached its final stages. However, it ended on the terms of Marist who bagged it at 26-24.
“The entire match we played well, but then we’d have these runs of unforced errors,” Central coach Joann Holverson said. “We competed well with Marist, and I’m really proud of how my guys played. We’d make a great play, then make a poor choice and make an
error.”
The next team that Marist will be competing against next is the Lincoln-Way East boys volleyball team. The contest between the two will take place on the coming Friday. Lincoln-Way East and Marist will be looking to head into the final of the Sandburg Sectional.
