Lincoln-Way East boys volleyball team defeats Neuqua Valley by 2-0 on Wednesday
Volleyball is becoming increasingly popular both at the university level as well as the high school level. If one wants to witness a good game of volleyball being played, all you have to do is head for the local school volleyball match. The fact that various
schools in the nation have been inculcating vigorous training programs is shown in the way the young athletes participate in the tournaments and the level of performance they display.
A team that lives up to be the epitome of an ideal high school volleyball team is the Lincoln-Way East boys volleyball team. They have been able to show consistency in their performance in this season overall as well as in the league play. Recently, L-W
East had a match against the Neuqua Valley boys volleyball team. The match that took place on Wednesday in Frankfort was L-W East emerge as victors over their rivals.
Not only was L-W East able to defeat Neuqua Valley, they did so by making a clean sweep over their rivals. By the time the non-conference match was over, L-W East had bagged each of the two sets of the game in a convincing manner.
With their recent win, the Griffins have been able to bag for themselves a total number of 18 wins in this season so far. They have accomplished the task after having undergone a commendably low number of defeats that amount to be five.
In comparison, the Wildcats have had a more impressive time while playing in non-conference matches despite the fact that they lost their last game. With the recent defeat, the losses of the Wildcats now tally at four. As opposed to this, the number of times
that the Wildcats have been able to secure a win is 19.
As soon as the first set of the match started, L-W East took charge of the court. They were able to take a lead early on at 8-0 and put the pressure on the Wildcats. The Wildcats tried to close in the gap but they could not do much to stop the onward charge
of the Griffins which ended only when they bagged the first set of the game at 25-15.
With the opening set out of their hands, the Wildcats put in a good effort in the second set of the game. However, the effort came in too late as the Griffins were going strong on their already built momentum. Therefore, set two ended in a Griffin win at
26-24.
“We've had a number of matches like that where we just look awful, literally just awful,” Neuqua Valley coach Erich Mendoza said. “I'm just really disappointed with how we played in Game 1 because I know we're much better than that.”
