Lincolnshire held their nerves to win a thrilling Group Four match of the MCCA Trophy by three wickets against Norfolk, at Lindum Sports Club Ground, Lincoln, on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
The hosts required 291 runs for victory in their allotted 50 overs and reached the target in the final over.
Norfolk’s batsman, Sam Arthurton, top scored the match with 133 runs, but his effort went in vain, as his bowlers failed to defend the total.
The conditions were ideal for the batsmen and this forced the visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Arthur-Walker-c58993, to bat first after winning the toss.
His batsmen didn’t disappoint at all, scoring a solid total, but the conditions remained friendly for the batsmen in the second half of the game as well, which made life difficult for the Norfolk bowlers.
Norfolk got off to a terrible start however, losing three quick wickets in the match. He remained unbeaten on 133 runs from 114 balls, striking 10 fours and seven thunderous sixes. His sensational effort guided the visitors closer to 300.
The home team’s new ball bowler, Adam http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shepherd-c89969, did a terrific job picking up three wickets in the match. The conditions were favourable for the batsmen, but Shepherd bowled with perfect control.
In reply, Lincolnshire were given a solid start by opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-John-Birch-c52285, who scored 53 runs at the top of the order.
However, the highlight of the innings was a tremendous century partnership between Karanjit Bansal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Alan-William-Cook-c80985. The pair put together 136 runs for the fourth wicket, taking the game away from the opposition.
Cook top scored the innings with 97 whereas Bansal scored 55. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Conrad-James-Louth-c51552 remained unbeaten on 30 from 19 balls, guiding his team to victory on the second ball of the last over.
Spelman, who bowled the last over of the match, did a decent job overall, picking up a couple of wickets for his team.
