Linda Byrne heads for 2012 London Olympics
Linda Byrne, a marathon runner, has recently qualified to take part in the London 2012 Olympic Games. The athlete accomplished the feat by participating in the National Lottery Dublin Marathon. The task was completed by crossing the finishing line with the
astonishing time of 2.36.21-39 seconds. This time interval was well within the time limit that was set to earn a qualification ticket into the Olympic Games.
Byrne is a 25-year-old athlete who proved her worth in her first run. However, the qualification was not enough to get the south Dublin athlete from Dundrum the first position slot in the Games as Byrne was able to secure the sixth position overall.
Byrne expressed herself in the following manner after she had got herself the sixth position in the marathon: “I had a low blood count and some stomach problems and it was only last May that I got back into full training for the marathon. I lost a bit of
confidence for a while, but I have had great support from my family and friends and also my coach, Enda Fitzpatrick. I have also found Marathon Mission, the support plan set up by the Dublin Marathon and Athletics Ireland, to have been of great assistance.”
According to Byrne, the race was smooth except for the final stages that consisted of about six miles where she had to really push herself. However, Byrne admitted that the support she got from the crowd motivated her to complete her journey with spirit
and zeal. Byrne was able to maintain a good pace throughout the race that added to great deal to the sixth position that she was able to achieve.
Byrne will now be making a show of her skills in the Olympic Games that are scheduled to take place next year. The city of London will be welcoming the Games for a total of third time on its soil. After having hosted the event successfully, London will become
the first city in the world to host the Games a total of three times. The first time that the Games came to London was in 1908 while the second time it was in 1948.
