Linda Zechiri bags Women’s Singles crown at the 2011 Bulgarian International – Badminton news
Bulgaria’s Linda Zechiri cheered local fans by winning the Women’s Singles crown as she defeated Neslihan Yigit of Turkey in the title match of the 2011 Bulgarian International, in Bulgaria, on Sunday, October 9.
Zechiri has been playing remarkable badminton for the last few months and has gained Number 36 position in the Women’s Singles world standings. She was the third seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the home event and lived up to the expectations of the local
crowd.
The third seed Bulgarian played tremendous badminton in the final showdown of the championship and emerged as the winner by finishing the contest in straight games of 43 minutes.
The higher ranked Zechiri won the first game after working hard against the spirited Turkish opponent. However, the second game was one-sided as the local shuttler faced no difficulty in finishing it with a striking margin.
In the first set of the match, both ladies put up a tough game and remained close until the 60-second interval. The Bulgarian played positive and attacking game and managed a two-point gap of 11-9.
In the second-half of the first game, Zechiri tried to extend her lead but the Turkish lady was also playing well and remained close until the concluding points of the first game. Zechiri employed fast drop shots coupled with straight smashes which helped
her to win the first game by a decent difference of 21-18 in 25 minutes.
In the second set of this final match, both shuttlers remained close in the opening points as they played aggressive badminton. However, the higher ranked Zechiri started to play a focused game and injected more power in her strokes to dominate the rallies.
The cheering home crowd was supporting the local hero which boosted her confidence. Zechiri played a fast game and managed a comfortable gap of 11-7 at the break.
After the interval, the Bulgarian maintained the difference by playing to her maximum potential. She controlled the rallies and dictated her challenger in all areas of the court. Her fast and positive play won her the second set in 18 minutes with a 21-14
score on the board. The final score of this straight-set final match was 21-18 and 21-14.
