Linda Zetchiri stamps Nicole Schaller to claim 2013 Hellas International title – Badminton News
Women’s Singles trophy of Hellas International belonged to Linda Zetchiri, as she defeated Nicole Schaller in the title match on Sunday, May 19, 2013. This grand finale prolonged to 36 minutes and both female
shuttlers kept the audience glued to their chairs while piling up the decisive figures of 21-14 and 21-19.
Linda, who was representing Bulgaria in this International Series, raised her country’s flag by sealing a splendid straight-set victory. On the other hand, the Swiss campaigner failed to live up to the expectation
s of her supported and surrendered tamely.
The Bulgarian player did not waste time and established a strong grip in the beginning of the first set. She prevailed in many establishing rallies and alarmed her opponent with a significant lead on the points
table.
Linda did not lose focus at any stage of the game and kept her challenger at the lower end all the way to the half time. She bagged several valuable points in a row and registered a mountainous figure of 11 before
the interval.
After the mid-game break, she improvised her game plan and confounded the opposing shuttler with an unbeatable strategy. She launched a flurry of power packed strokes and pushed Nicole many times in the contest
and then claimed few valuable points with deceiving drop net shots.
Linda maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation and registered an overwhelming score of 21-14.
However, it was not an easy win for her in the following game as the Swiss contestant threw her best at Linda and challenged her in all segments of the game.
This time, Nicole looked in supreme touch as she did not allow her competitor to rule the court in the beginning. She employed an effective counterattack strategy and stood toe-to-toe on the points table.
At the half time, both female shuttlers were standing close and the supporters of both contenders were super excited in the stands. The second half of the set started with couple of gruelling rallies but then
Linda managed to gain a decent edge.
She maintained a difference of two points and earned the right to be on top of the victory stand with 21-19 score.
