Linda Zetchiri tames Carissa Turner to secure Women’s Singles title at Cyprus International 2013
Bulgaria’s top player Linda Zetchiri lived up to the expectations as she grabbed Women’s Singles title after defeating Carissa Turner of Wales in the final battle of 25th Li-Ning Winter Sun Cyprus International 2013 on Sunday, January 27, in Cyprus.
The top seeded Linda, who did not show any sign of pressure throughout the championship, continued playing flawless badminton in the final contest and she easily thrashed the second seeded Carissa in a striking fashion.
The higher ranked Zetchiri was calm and collected in the arena as she played with remarkable precision in the arena and remained successful in winning the title match in a completely one-sided fashion with a huge margin of 21-15 and 21-9.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Carissa gave a good fight in the starting points of the final battle but she could not maintain the pace of rallies. She started to commit unforced errors and eventually went down against her Bulgarian challenger in straight
sets.
It was a tough fight in the initial rallies when both participants employed their aggressive skills. But Zetchiri started to control the affairs by playing attacking badminton.
The phenomenal variations in Zetchiri’s shots helped her to maintain her domination against her lower ranked challenger on court.
Bulgarian shuttler did not show any sign of confusion as she remained in complete command of rallies until the one-minute interval.
The contest progressed in the similar fashion after the one-minute break as Zetchiri did not lose her control in the arena.
Zetchiri continued employing powerful smashes in targeted areas and managed to bag the first set with a comfortable score of 21-15.
Carissa increased her speed to play smart badminton in the first half of second game but could not pile up pressure on her opponent.
The powerful smashes and net killings kept Zetchiri ahead of her challenger all the way until the end of first half in second set.
Carissa could not show resistance in the second game of this contest as her in-form rival Zetchiri played better badminton and secured the set with a terrific 21-9 score on the board.
