Lindaweni Fanetri eases into Women’s Singles quarter-final of Singapore Open 2013 – Badminton news
Indonesia’s elite player, Lindaweni Fanetri, eased into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Japan’s Kaori Imabeppu in round-of-16 encounter at Li Ning Singapore Open on Thursday, June 20, in Singapore.
The lofty Lindaweni, who entered into this Super Series event as an un-seeded player, turned into potential contender by reaching into the top-8 stage. She played tremendous game against her Japanese rival and grabbed a tight victory in 48 minutes.
Lindaweni had to employ all of her tactics throughout this pre-quarter-final contest. She tackled the pressure in a decent way and won the match in straight games with a close 21-15 and 22-20 score on the board.
On the other hand, Kaori also played good badminton giving a tough time to Lindaweni all the way. However, she failed to control her nerves in ending points and unluckily, lost the match without winning any set.
It was one of the best matches of the day at the indoor arena in Singapore as both shuttlers played attacking badminton from the starting points. The cracking sound of powerful shots could be heard clearly in all corners of the hall. They stayed close in
the opening half of first game.
After the one-minute break, the contest progressed in the similar fashion as no one allowed the other to build a comfortable lead.
Kaori was slightly ahead at 15-14 when Lindaweni changed her tactics and surprised everyone. She geared up her speed in all areas and scored seven points in a row to grab the first game with a 21-15 total on the board.
In the second game, both contestants again were aggressive and positive leaving no room for each other to get a clear lead. Until the one-minute break, the score remained close as no one could earn a comfortable lead.
After the mid-game break, both shuttlers continued attacking badminton and kept the local crowd fully intact. The score reached at the crucial stage 20-20 when Lindaweni played with precision and grabbed two consecutive points to end up the contest with
a tight score of 22-20.
At the quarter-final stage, Lindaweni will lock horns against India’s Saina Nehwal who won her round-of-16 contest in three games against Japan’s Eriko Hirose.
