Lindaweni Fanetri storms into Women’s Singles final at Syed Modi International GPG 2012
Indonesia’s in-form player Lindaweni Fanetri showed a scintillating performance and surged into Women’s Singles final after defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in semi-final encounter at Syed Modi International India GPG 2012 at Lucknow, on Saturday, December
22.
The seventh seeded Fanetri, who stayed impressive in all matches of the tournament, played with incredible speed and overpowered Nozomi who was sixth seeded shuttler in the Women’s Singles main draw.
Indonesian shuttler had to dig into her arsenal to grab the opening set but she found a good flow and easily won the second game to seal off a convincing victory while taking 47 minutes in the arena.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Nozomi played impressive badminton but failed to stop her Indonesian challenger from winning this semi-final match in straight games with a reasonable margin on the board.
Both shuttlers played impressive game in the opening set as they played with impressive precision and managed to stay close on the board until the one-minute break.
They continued playing attacking and positive badminton after the one-minute interval and pushed each other everywhere on court by taking the bird early.
The score reached at the nail-biting stage of 20-20 when Fanetri played smart badminton and won the ending points to snatch the first set with a close 22-20 score on the board.
However, things were different in the second game of this semi-final encounter when Fanetri played better badminton and controlled the pace of rallies at the early stage.
Indonesian lady continued her positive and aggressive run on court and remained successful in pushing her higher ranked Japanese opponent on back foot.
Fanetri displayed her lofty craft in the arena by taking the bird early from all corners and maintained her upper hand over Nozomi who remained struggling in the arena.
The planned and positive play in the concluding part of second set helped Fanetri to grab the set with a superb 21-16 margin on the board.
Indonesian lady stamped her domination on court while playing to her maximum potential and remained successful in winning this battle with a reasonable total of 22-20 and 21-16.
