The Danish shot-stopper has agreed to extend his stay at Old Trafford, after impressing Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson last season.
Despite the signing of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anders-Lindegaard-c5553 enjoyed a lengthy spell in goal, after the Spaniard failed to deceive on the pitch.
The Atletico Madrid youngster was signed to replace Edwin Van Der but fell well short of the mark initially, due to his shaky performances between the posts.
After a string of high profile errors, Ferguson allowed Lindegaard to take his place and the 28-year-old took the chance with both hands, cementing his place in the starting line-up. However, an injury in January thrust him back onto the sidelines during
which De Gea performed brilliantly and was able to win back Fergie’s trust once again.
Although the Spaniard is now first-choice at the helm, Lindegaard is eager to make his mark and is ready to challenge for regular berth. And so it was no surprise that when the club offered him the chance of signing another contract, he didn’t hesitate in
doing so.
De Gea’s commitment with the Spanish Olympic Team means that he is likely to rejoin the squad in a couple of days, so Lindegaard has a chance to impress onlookers in the meantime.
"I'm very pleased to have signed a new contract. I'm glad and proud that the manager has shown the confidence he has in me by giving me a new deal. There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than right here. The competition for places is tough, as it
should be in a club like this. It only makes us better as individuals and, more importantly, stronger as a team.”
"It's what I have dreamt of all my life and nothing makes me more proud than wearing the Manchester United badge,” the Danish International was quoted as saying.
United are currently preparing for friendly fixtures in Europe, with Valerenga next on their list. But the highlight of the summer will be a crucial tie against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in Gothenburg on the 8th of August, which will give Ferguson a chance to
test his strongest team.
