Lindsay Delmar earns Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day three – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Lindsay Delmar of UCSC earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Saturday, July 21.
Delmar remained prominent over her opponents from the start of the eight-lap freestyle discipline and made her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her epic pace, the 19-year-old Delmar remained almost one body length ahead of her following swimmer and reached the victory stand for gold medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 17.40 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Sherry Liu of HYACK, who stayed 0.83 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade as second position holder by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 18.23 seconds.
Similarly, the silver medallist was trailed by Heath Maitland of TSC, who stayed just a half second slower from over powering her foregoing finisher and secured bronze medal of the event by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 18.73 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Danica Ludlow of PGB, who stayed two body lengths apart and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 20.96 seconds.
Ludlow was followed by Sarah-Lee Hevey of CAMO, who stayed 0.37 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 4 minutes and 21.33 seconds.
The 23-year-old Hevey remained just two strokes faster from Sophia Saroukian of KEYANO, who finished sixth in the event by posting a time of 4 minutes and 21.79 seconds.
Saroukian was traced by Breanna Hendriks of UCSC, who secured seventh fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 4 minutes and 21.81 seconds.
Eighth finest spot of the discipline was secured by Nadine Williams of STSC, who remained half a body length apart and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 22.12 seconds.
Furthermore, Delmar was overjoyed with her phenomenal effort in the mediocre distant event and stated her desire of continuing the same at the upcoming swimming championships.
