Lindsay Lee-Waters defeats Alexandra Cadantu in the first round of qualifying draw at Fes

Longing for a spot in the main draw, Lindsay Lee-Waters of America defeated Alexandra Cadantu of Romania in three sets during the first round match of GP De Sar La Princess Lalla Meryem qualifying draw, being held at Fes, Morocco.
2011 Grand Prix is the eleventh edition of the event and is a part of WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tour.
Lindsay Lee-Waters ranked at 185 is ranked a good 125 places above Cadantu, who is ranked 210 in the WTA rankings list. The higher ranked Lee-Waters made her latest appearance at the 2011 PTT Pattaya Open where she defeated Tomoko
Yonemura of Japan in straight sets, before losing to Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan in the final round of the qualifying draw.
Playing Cadantu, Lee-Waters took the charge of the first set, who, despite serving lower than her opponent in first serves, took the set with a 6-3 score line. She won 69 percent on her first serves, as opposed to the Romanian’s
53 percent. Lee-Waters was also better in her return game as she won 47 percent  points off of Cadantu’s serves. Furthermore she was granted two breakpoints, one of which she saved and clinched the set to go one up in the set score.
In the second set it was Cadantu’s turn to bounce back. The set saw an abrupt change in Lee-Waters’ serve. Her first serves percentage dropped to four percent and in addition to that, she won a meager 32 percent on her first serves.
The 20-year-old Cadantu on the other hand landed 50 percent of her first serves and managed to get an impressive 73 percent points on them. Difference of 41 percent points proved to be her winning edge as she took the set 6-2.
In the final set, Lee-Waters put her tennis skills to good use and bounced back. She broke her opponent in the 9th game to take the lead 5-4. One break of serve was all that was required to end the match with a 6-4 score
line in Lee-Waters favour.
Lee-Waters will face Catalina Castano of Colombia in the second round of qualifying draw. Castano moved past Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania in the straights sets.
