and dished out two assists for the Lynx.
Trailing by 40-28 late in the second quarter of the game, Whalen punctuated 14 of her points in the last four and half minutes to give her side a shot going into the break. However, Sun hounded her in the second half and erupted
with a scoring blizzard to humble Lynx. Whalen ended the night on 7 for 11 effort from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from free throw line.
September 8, 2011 – Minnesota Lynx vs. Chicago Sky
Whalen selected the game against Chicago Sky to break the team record for most assists in a season. The night saw Whalen put up one of her best performances in the season with 20 points and a season high 10 assists as she propelled
the Lynx to an enthralling 78-69 victory against Sky at the Target Center.
Whalen, who was a two-time Naismith Award Finalist, also grabbed seven rebounds and stole the ball twice. The three-time WNBA All-Star did not commit even a single turnover in more than 28 minutes of action. It marked the first
time in the league history a player had at least 20 points and 10 assists without a turnover.
“MVP,'' Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve said of Whalen's terrific performance. “If you are only looking at statistics, maybe it is not so impressive to an average person that does not watch our team. If you watch our team, and I saw
this too.”
