Lindsey Engel claims Women’s 50 yard freestyle gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Lindsey Engel of Orange Co. Waves claimed gold medal of the Women’s 50 yard freestyle on day one of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Thursday, December 6.
Engel dictated terms to her opponents in the shortest freestyle event and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her astonishing pace, Engel remained just an inch ahead of her closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing wall for the title by producing a time of 22.24 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Linnea Mack of Osprey Aquatics, who was 0.34 seconds behind and concluded her race in second place by submitting a time of 22.58 seconds.
Mack was traced by Kristen Vredeveld of Baylor Swim Club, who was 0.53 seconds apart and ended third in the event by producing a time of 23.11 seconds.
Vredeveld was followed by Lauren Rhodes of SwimMAC Carolina, who was only 0.03 seconds slower from securing her spot on the medal rostrum as she finished fourth in the event by posting a time of 23.14 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Keaton Blovad of Phoenix Swim Club, who was 0.05 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and clocked a time of 23.19 seconds.
On the other hand, Brett Ringgold of North Texas Nada occupied the title of Men’s 50 yard freestyle. The 17-year-old Ringgold remained only an inch ahead of his following swimmer and posted a time of 19.73 seconds.
The champion was followed by Kyle Darmody of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 19.83 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Dylan Carter of Davie Nadadores, who was 0.11 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 19.94 seconds.
Carter was trailed by Vincent Tafuto of Hershey Aquatic, who was 0.31 seconds behind and posted a time of 20.25 seconds for fourth place.
Furthermore, Engel and Ringgold were pleased with their undisputed efforts while the championship will end on December 8.
