Lindsey Engel outshines in Women’s 100 yard freestyle heats – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Lindsey Engel of Orange Co. Waves outshined in the preliminary rounds of Women’s 100 yard freestyle on day three of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
Engel stifled hopes of her opponents in the four-lap discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for first position.
She showed no mercy to her challengers from the start and transpired on the finishing blockade for first position with the timing of 50.10 seconds.
She stayed 0.12 seconds ahead of Lauren Rhodes of SwimMAC Carolina, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer by posting a time of 50.22 seconds.
Similarly, Rhodes remained 0.02 seconds faster from Catherine Ladd of Santa Clara Swim Club, who suffered a loss of 0.02 seconds from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 50.24 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Linnea Mack of Osprey Aquatics, who also stayed 0.02 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in a time of 50.26 seconds.
The 17-year-old was traced by Rochelle Dong of Rancho San Diegu, who was only an inch apart and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for fifth position by touching the wall with an effort of 50.27 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed splendid efforts of Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina and Emily Allen of North Mecklenburg, who remain engaged in a neck-to-neck race for sixth place.
Both swimmers involved each other in tough battle and failed to ascend on the finishing wall. They remained 0.15 seconds apart and made their way to the finishing blockade for sixth place by producing a time of 50.42 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Victoria Toris of Scottsdale Aquatics, who was 0.05 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for eighth position with the timing of 50.47 seconds.
Furthermore, Engel was very happy with her top fastest effort in the freestyle event and stressed that she is looking forward to make her fans happier by continuing the same in playoff.
