Lindsey Wright makes headway, but still has a long way to go
Lindsey Wright, who has been trying to regain her momentum after being out of form for the last two years, appears to have put an end to her winning drought in the 2012 season.
The current season has brought plenty of surprises for Aussie Wright, as she was able to record a stunning victory at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women’s Open — a tournament co-sanctioned by the ALPG (Australian Ladies Professional Golf) Tour.
Although still not in her best from, Wright decided to put her skills to the test in the first major tournament of the 2012 season—the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
She managed to make the cut and finished tied for the 43rd at the Mission Hills Country Club.
Analysts said that the 32-year-old Aussie has been facing trouble regaining her lost momentum since 2009, but winning an even on the ALPG Tour and making the cut at the first championship of the season has reflected that the star golfer is on the move.
Having racked up 4 professional victories in her career so far, Wright has been phenomenal on the Futures Tour, as she won 3 tournaments.
Experts said that Wright has been playing a professional game since 2003 — way too long a time for a player to prove her/his worth on the course, but she has not gained the respect she deserves.
They said that, despite recording fewer victories and no wins on the LPGA Tour, Wright still has what it takes to shine on the course. The player has shown in the recent events that she is resilient and can bounce back anytime.
The Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012 saw the Aussie star display her real skills. She was outstanding in the first round, as she carded a stunning 67 to strike fear into her rivals.
Although pumped up by the first-round performance, Wright appeared to have lost momentum in the last three rounds, as she could not hit where she was supposed to.
She surprised the spectators in the first round as she drained 3 straight birdies on the par-4 first, par-5 second and par-4 third holes. She kept the momentum going and launched another two consecutive birdies on the difficult par-3 eight and par-5 nine.
Analysts said that Wright could not have done any better than what she did at the Kraft Nabisco Championship — because of the anxiety and depression that she had been going through for months.
Speaking of her troubled times, she said that she played the major championship with confidence and is glad to find form after over 2 years.
“I could have shot 80 today, and I’d still feel really great,” Wright said. “I don’t feel like I’m swimming with weights and dragging around 10 pounds of excess baggage. I sleep better, and I’m happier”.
