Lindsey Wright ready to prove her worth at Archerfield
Lindsey Wright, who finished in the top-10 at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic last week, looks set to participate in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, scheduled to be played from May 3-5, at Archerfield Links.
Wright, who belongs to Australia, is extremely thrilled after performing well at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course.
The roster for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open is quite strong, as it is featuring key LET (Ladies European Tour) players, like Catriona Matthew and Melissa Reid.
However, given her performance in Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, she appears to be in high spirits. Analysts said the star has been seeking to record a victory on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour since the last few years.
They said that racking up a title at the 2012 ISPS Handa New Zealand Women’s Open, an event also co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour, has given the Aussie a much-needed boost.
The last tournament, the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, was very special for her. The strong field featured battle-hardened players, such as the world number three Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer and the teen prodigy Lexi Thompson.
Wright kicked off the tournament in an impressive style, as she carded a 67. She shot five birdies and no bogey.
Despite being confident following her success in New Zealand and her better-than-anticipated performance at Crossings Course, Wright is likely to see a tough time.
Scottish Catriona Matthew is the defending champion, and she has vowed to repeat her last year’s performance.
Matthew has the home course advantage, which means that Wright may find it hard to put pressure on her rivals.
“I’m lucky enough to be an honorary member at Archerfield and I feel at home and relaxed there. I think it’s a great venue for this tournament. In fact I literally can stay at home, in my own bed, which is a huge bonus,” the Scottish star said.
In addition to professional players, there are several non-professional players in the roster. However, most of the non-professional players are celebrities, who will grace the event in order to attract more media coverage and fan following.
