Lindstedt/ Tecau down Aspelin/ Siljestrom to clinch doubles title – Swedish Open 2011
Top seeds, Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Romania’s Horia Tecau, eased past Swedes, Simon Aspelin and Andreas Siljestrom in straight sets at the SkiStar Swedish Open 2011, an ATP World Tour 250 series event held on the clay courts
in Bastad, Sweden. They registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over their local rivals to win the title on Sunday.
The defending champions displayed extra-ordinary skills to retain their title in a sixty-eight minutes match. They earned a straight set victory in the final career match of Aspelin and shelved another title.
Lindstedt and Tecau confidently entered the court and plucked in entire serves with their amazing forehands and backhands from their arsenal of skills. The duo saved all three breakpoints faced and converted one out of five breakpoint
opportunities to their advantage in the sixth game to bag the opener with a 6-3 wins.
The Swedish Romanian duo lost their way in the final set and were trailing 1-3 when they bounced back to reel off last five games in a row. They failed to save the only breakpoint conceded but capitalised on three out of five breakpoint
chances to their advantage. As a result, the pair eventually sealed the set with a 6-3 score line again.
Overall, the Swede Romanian tandem clobbered a lower first serve share of 55 percent as compared to their Swedish opponents but earned a spectacular 89 percent win on it. In addition to this, they committed only two double faults
and spiced the set by hammering four ferocious aces.
"It is amazing," said Lindstedt. "You don't get to defend your title every year, so to defend my title in my hometown it is amazing. It is a title that I thought I would never win, but now I have gone the last three years: in the
final, then win, win. I am on cloud nine right now.
Tecau added, "Last year we had a great year with 's-Hertogenbosch, Wimbledon and here. A lot of points to defend. So this summer we tried to take one tournament, one match at a time. We are really happy to do that. It is not easy
to come back and defend a title. Everyone wants to win. It is confirmation for us that we are a stronger team.”
The winning combination of Lindstedt and Tecau won their second title of the season. They triumphed at the Grand Prix Hassan II held at Casablanca in April after overpowering Fleming and Zelenay. The pair then made a final berth
at s-Hertogenbosch before earning 250 points towards their 2011 ATP Doubles Ranking and prize money of €22,000.
