Lindstedt/Tecau down Peya/Soares to lift the crown – Skistar Swedish Open 2012
Top seeded duo, Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Romania’s Horia Tecau, tumbled the Austrian-Brazilian team, Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares, in straight sets at the Skistar Swedish Open 2012 on Sunday. They formulated a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory against their rivals
to lift the title at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event taking place in Bastad.
The highest ranked team of the tournament, Lindstedt and Tecau, displayed their true colours throughout the week and triumph the tournament with poise. They fended off late resistance to outsmart the second seeds and steal the show in one hour and 26 minutes.
"It's unreal to win a home title three years in a row," the beaming Swede was quoted after capturing the title. "It's been unreal, we came here almost like in a coma [after Wimbledon]. We have been very, very tired all week, but we have managed to raise
our game to play our best tennis for the semis and the final."
Tecau stated in a post-match press conference:
"We are very happy to get the third title here as it's a special tournament for Robert and me also."
The Swedish-Romanian pair made a drastic entry at this tournament and suffered the first blow in the opening game to fall at 0-2. However, they unleashed their true colours after that and went on a five-game rampage, eventually going 5-2 up. Lindstedt and
Tecau held their serve once more and pocketed the opener by winning six games to three.
Ranked third in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Lindstedt and Tecau maintained their intensity in the following set and got the coveted break in the opening game. Despite squandering their edge in the 10th game, the
Swedish-Romanian pair stayed focused and took the set to a tie-breaker. They dominated in it and clicked the set with 7-6(5) win.
Summing up the winning junction’s performance, Lindstedt and Tecau manifested a lower first serve share of 68 per cent as compared to their opponents’ 73 per cent but impressively marked 32 out of 45 points on it. They also spilled more double faults but
capitalised on three out of 11 break chances to earn the glory.
