Lindstedt/Tecau ease past Lipsky/Ram to reach the doubles semi-finals – Australian Open 2012
Doubles quarter-final of the Australian Open featured the seventh seeded duo of Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania thrashing the 13th seeded American pair of Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram in a comprehensive
manner. The contest lasted for just 78 minutes, with Lindstedt and Tecau winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to book a berth in the semi-final round of the Grand Slam event in Melbourne Australia.
It was a fairly one-sided contest, with the seventh seeded team dominating for most parts of the match. Lindstedt and Tecau developed great chemistry between their individual games and stringed their efforts with amazing coordination
to register an emphatic victory over their bleak opponents. They cruised through the games quickly and wasted limited time in taking down their opponents.
The American contestants competed very well in the matchup but frittered away the crucial opportunities in the game to remain at a disadvantage. They have three break points in the entire contest but utterly failed to convert a
single chance, finishing on the losing side in the end. Lipsky and Ram suffered two out of six serve breaks and 35 cracking winners from their superior ranked opponents to eventually submit in the second set.
Lindstedt and Tecau were off to a steady start in the opening set but gradually built up pace later to get the better of their competitors. The seventh seed duo registered the first serve break of the day in the third game, when
Tecau pinned a volley at the net to earn a cross-court winner. Lindstedt and Tecau held their serves in the remaining games, not allowing any opening to the American duo to make its way back in the match. They served out of the opening set at 6-4 to get the
upper hand in the contest.
A crushing break point conversion by Lindstedt and Tecau in the very first game of the next set pushed the American competitors on their back foot once again. Lipsky and Ram couldn’t recover from the early damage done the break
of serve and eventually submitted the second set at 4-6, letting Lindstedt and Tecau into the semi-final of the Australian Open.
