Lindstedt/Tecau upset Mirnyi/Nestor to reach semi-finals– China Open 2011
Robert Lindstedt from Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania, the unseeded team, stunned the number two seed Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor 7-6 (6), 2-6, 10-6 on Thursday to make it to the semi-finals of 2011 China Open here at the National
Tennis Center in Beijing, China.
Lindstedt/Tecau looked to frustrate the challenging team right from the start of the match. Not many would have expected them to reach that far at the Association of Tennis Professionals tournament. Upsetting Alamgro/Robredo in
the first round play, Lindstedt/Tecau set the tone right from the start of the tournament. And if they can maintain their current form, they will have a great chance of clinching their third title of the season.
Lindstedt/Tecau are ranked sixth in the Doubles arena of ATP. Having won two titles on the tour already this year, they are improving with every passing tournament. With an outstanding 34/17 win/loss record this year, they are
looking on their way to another superb championship victory.
Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor will be disappointed with result of the match. Nothing came off for the, it was one of those days for the pair. Despite serving brilliantly and breaking the opposition team twice in the match, they
ended up on the losing side. The pair has been doing a great job on the tour since the start of the year 2011.
Claiming 77 per cent of the points on their serves, they always looked in control on their serve games. Hitting 8 serves aces in the match, they also earned valuable points at crucial stages of the contest. Saving two out two break
points against them, the losing combination had a rock solid defence as well. Despite winning 53 per cent of the total points in the match, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor were drived out of the tournament, showing that it was an unfortunate day for them. Winner
of 2 ATP titles, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor are known very well for their fighting spirit and they are expected to bounce back strongly on their next appearance.
Lindstedt/Tecau held on to six service games in the opening set to force it into a tie-breaker. Showing no signs of nerves, the pair clinched the tie-breaker 10-8 to take 1-0 set score lead in the match. Mirnyi/Nestor broke the
serve twice in the following set to event he set score 1-1 as they shifted the balance of the clash. Both teams displayed some high quality tennis but it was Lindstedt/Tecau, who eventually came out on top to move ahead at the tournament. They will be hoping
to snatch another great victory in the semi-final match-up.
