Linebacker Tim Dobbins returns to Houston Texans on fresh unspecified terms-NFL News
The uncertainty around future of the unrestricted free agent linebacker, Tim Dobbins, has ended following confirmation of a new deal to him by the Houston Texans.
Dobbins’ re-signing off the free agency comes a day after Texans added another linebacker, Bradie James, who before his availability in the market was a Dallas Cowboys’ player.
Except for confirmation of the new contract, terms of Dobbins’ deal, including its tenure and value, have not been made public by either side.
The linebacker, who played 15 games as a Texan in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, had not been promised a new deal by the team, and on expiry of his previous contract, he became an unrestricted free agent.
He was unable to attract any solid offer from any other team around the league.
Some reports had claimed that the player apparently was interested in staying at Texans for more seasons and waited to know if the management would be willing to offer him a new contract.
A couple of reporters of the beat had laid claims that the player’s agent was in contact with Texans’ managers, possibly to seek an acceptable way out for both parties.
None of the stakeholders independently validate or negate those reports. So, all the talk around the chances of a new deal for Dobbins was already in the air.
Now, it is official that the player will be returning to Houston to rejoin the squad in the team’s voluntary workout programme in the offseason, which is expected to start in about a week’s time.
Dobbins led Texans in 2011 with nine tackles on special teams. His record also included a forced fumble and four other tackles.
He was unable to win a starting role, but remained consistent in form and performance. This was probably the notable reason for Texans to re-sign him back to their line-up.
Earlier, Texans also signed former Cowboys’ linebacker, Bradie James, who will be reuniting with his former defensive co-ordinator, Wade Phillips, who now is Texans’ assistant defensive coach.
So, both players are said to be aiming for considerable improvement in their form under supervision of Phillips, who is credited for building Texans’ defence to be among top five on the league’s ranking. A year earlier, Texans defence was lingering far below
around the 30th position.
Bradie James, who said to have had tremendously progressed while working with Phillips at the Dallas Cowboys, is happy over getting another opportunity of working with his former coach.
Meanwhile, Texans also expect a considerable improvement in their defence given they will have more depth at the position and can utilise the players into multiple roles.
