Question:

Linen/cotton blend top stained after hand washing.... HELP!?

I wore this top once and hand washed it like I do everything else- in cold water with regular shampoo. I air dried it on a rack and now there are all sorts of yellow marks on it... I have no idea where they came from! Could someone help? Should I bleach?

Thanks!

  1. hmm... I wouldn't recommend washing everything that way. I live in Sweden, and here we know how to take care of our clothing. Usually the 40 degree or the cold setting depending on your washing machine will do a good job, and please use regular detergent. Shampoo is designed for hair and may have many chemicals in it. Who knows what you did to your clothes. Buy a nice laundry detergent, and READ THE TAGS on your clothing. They always have detailed instructions on how to wash them. All of those symbols each mean something. Like, no iron, wash cold, wash warm, no bleach, no dryer... etc. Look them up somewhere on the internet. I think they're called care tag symbols.

I promise if you follow those instructions you will have a long lasting life for your clothing. As for your current problem, i'm not sure how bleach effects linen... look up "bleach effects on linen" in yahoo. If there's nothing, then go for it. It definitely doesn't have too much of an effect on cotton... but it's also unfortunate because it can be harsh on clothing... that's why you should follow the instructions on the care tag in the first place. And most washing machines will not destroy your clothes, just learn how to use all of those k***s and dials!!!

  2. I would try soaking overnight in tepid water with a good handful of salt in it. This is to try to remove the stain. (I am wondering if the rack you use is wood & stains have come from that?). If the salt doesn't do it, then rinse the salt wash out & soak overnight again in tepid water with  washing soda in it. If the stains still won't come out then I would take the risk & bleach in tepid water  as a last resort.

Rinse well when done then soak in fabric softener/conditioner for a good 10 mins. I would then hang on hanger in shower to drip dry.

    Good luck. Uk
